I had previously read on Yahoo Groups that a project was under way to retro fit a USB interface to the PaceTwin allowing for easy archiving of recorded programs to a computer. Well, the guy who is planning the DIY upgrade has setup a website which is documenting progress and also other useful PaceTwin information. See the URL below for more information…

I got an e-mail form my farther-in-law this morning telling me that Pace were about to release a new software update for the Twins PVR. Yah! I love my PaceTwin but it has had a checkered past with bugs in the software, the one existing bug which I still encounter is 0 second recordings. Initial reports seem to indicate this problem is resolved in the new update, woohoo! :-D

Whilst reading about this new PaceTwin update I also found mention of TwinRip which enables you to extract recorded programs from the PaceTwin hard disk. I have yet to test it, but it looks very interesting and a Linux version is also available :-)

I have built an initial prototype of a Linux based PVR using some (very) old hardware I had available. I simply plugged in a new Hauppauge Nova-T PCI card and hoped for the best :-) This initial prototype uses KnoppMyth Release 5A16 so that I could get up to speed as quickly as possible but I plan on using Debian or Ubuntu in the future.

My Linux PVR – Prototype 1 article has full details of how I got everything working and includes details of how I fudged things so that over the air electronic program guide (EPG) can be imported into the MythTV program guide database.

I have started working on a new project at home, it is one I know I am going to enjoy because it satisfies two of my hobbies :-) I am going to build a prototype PVR based on MythTV. I am still in the planning stages at the moment but I am keeping notes in my Linux PVR and Media Center article.
